Many internationally known violinists over several generations were students of Max Rostal. In 1991\, a competition was created in his name in his adopted hometown of Bern\, Switzerland. Initially hosted by the Bern Conservatory\, and alternately held for violin and viola\, since 2009 it is held at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) for violin and viola simultaneously. \n
